A PHOTOGRAPHER'S GUIDE
Winnipeg Wedding Venues (2026 Guide)
Real Advice from a Photographer
As a Winnipeg wedding photographer, I've photographed weddings across this city for years, in ballrooms and barns, gardens and galleries. This is an honest look at some of Winnipeg's best venues, from a photographer's perspective.
Winnipeg has a surprisingly deep bench when it comes to wedding venues. Whether you're planning something intimate and rustic or a 300-person celebration with a grand entrance and a dance floor that goes until midnight, there's a venue here that fits the day you're imagining.
Every venue on this page is one I've photographed at, or researched closely. What I've tried to do is give you the kind of practical, honest detail that I'd share if a couple asked me over coffee. Not venue brochure language, just the real picture.
If a venue catches your eye and you want to see more from a real wedding there, I've linked to blog posts throughout. And if you're still working through your options, I'm always happy to share my thoughts. Let me know what you're looking for.
HISTORIC DOWNTOWN LANDMARK
Fort Garry Hotel
The Fort Garry is one of those venues that just has weight to it. Dark wood, high ceilings, chandeliers, grand staircases. There's a richness to the building that you don't find many places in Winnipeg, and it shows up in photos. I love shooting here because the character is already there. You're not trying to manufacture atmosphere, you're just working with what the building gives you.
One of my favourite things about the Fort Garry is what's right outside the front door. The Upper Fort Garry gate is literally steps away, and it's one of the best portrait locations in the city. You've got this beautiful historic stone structure, and if you position it right you can get the hotel itself in the background. It tells the whole story of the location in a single frame.
If you're drawn to something dramatic, historic, and full of character, the Fort Garry delivers that in a way very few venues can.

OUTDOOR PRAIRIE VENUE
Starlit Point
Starlit Point sits about 25 minutes south of Winnipeg. The ceremony space overlooks the Red River Valley, and on a clear evening the sky out there is genuinely something. Manitoba sunsets do a lot of the work.
The property has open fields and wide prairie views, which gives you a lot of room for portraits. When the light gets good toward the end of the night, it gets really good.
The bridal cottage is an absolutely stunning place to get ready in. It’s bright and well-designed, which matters more than people think. Getting ready photos are a real part of the story, and a good space makes a difference. The reception tent is transparent, so you still get sky and natural light even once you’re inside, which I love from a photography standpoint.
Up to 160 guests. Mid-May through early October.

TIMBER FRAME BARN VENUE
Hawthorn Estates
Hawthorn Estates is one of my favourite venues in the area, and a big part of that is the people behind it. The owners are genuinely wonderful to work with, personal, attentive, and they just get things done. That makes a real difference on a wedding day.
The venue itself is beautiful. The outdoor ceremony site is well thought out, the covered patio is stunning, and the timber frame reception space is one of the most impressive I've seen at any local venue. It has that warmth and scale that photographs really well, especially when the evening light starts coming through.
It's set on five acres surrounded by forest and farmland, about 25 minutes north of the city. The property gives you a lot to work with for portraits, and because they're set up for all seasons you're not limited to summer.
Up to 150 guests. Outside vendors welcome.

BOTANICAL GARDEN VENUE
The Leaf
The Leaf is one of the newer venues in Winnipeg and it's already become one of the most visually striking. The mezzanine is a beautiful spot for a ceremony, with soft, diffused natural light that comes through without being harsh or difficult to work with. That matters more than people realise when it comes to how your photos actually turn out.
The biomes are a photographer's dream. Lush greenery, interesting light, and a setting that doesn't look like anything else in the city. I love taking couples in there for portraits because the results are genuinely unlike what you'd get anywhere else in Winnipeg.
The reception space is large and looks out over the gardens, and there are really lovely outdoor locations on the property as well. One of the things I appreciate most about The Leaf is that it works just as well in January as it does in July. If you're planning a winter wedding and want something warm, green, and full of life, this is a pretty special option.

RUSTIC DINING VENUE
Pine Ridge Hollow
Pine Ridge Hollow sits right on the edge of Birds Hill Park, about 15 minutes from the city, and the location is a big part of what makes it special. The venue backs directly onto the park, which opens up your portrait options well beyond the property itself. Forest paths, open fields, big prairie sky. It's a lot to work with.
The outdoor ceremony site is set among the gardens and trees, and the reception takes place in a large white tent that works as a blank canvas for whatever style you're going for.
Pine Ridge Hollow is a restaurant first, which means the food is genuinely part of the experience. If you want a relaxed, natural setting close to the city with a little more breathing room than a traditional venue, it's worth a look.

MODERN MINIMAL VENUE
The White Poplar
The White Poplar sits about 20 minutes north of Winnipeg on 70 acres, and the property has been designed with a lot of intention. The ceremony site overlooks a pond and fountain, which makes for a really clean, beautiful backdrop. The open air reception pavilion has a modern, minimal feel that photographs consistently well regardless of your décor choices.
One of the things I appreciate most here is the getting ready setup. The bridal house has two separate spaces, one for the wedding party and one for the couple, on different floors, so both sides can get ready in the same building without seeing each other. That's genuinely practical and it makes the morning of so much smoother to photograph.
It's a three season venue with full private use of the property, trails through mature forest, and capacity for up to 200 guests.
If you're drawn to something clean, modern, and set in the Manitoba landscape, The White Poplar is one of the strongest options in the area.

MODERN URBAN GALLERY
Winnipeg Art Gallery
The WAG is one of those venues that doesn’t look like anything else in Winnipeg. The rooftop ceremony space looks out over the city skyline, and as a backdrop it’s hard to beat. There’s a real drama to it, especially in the evening when the light drops and the city starts to glow behind you.
Inside, the reception space carries that same feeling. High ceilings, strong architecture, and enough built-in character that you don’t need to do much to make it feel special.
This is a venue for couples who want something bold and urban. It’s not traditional, and that’s exactly the point.

PARK & GARDEN VENUES
Assiniboine Park
Assiniboine Park isn't one venue, it's several, and each one has its own character. I've photographed weddings across the park at the Pavilion, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, the English Garden, and the Qualico Family Centre. Each spot has a distinct feel and its own blog post linked below. Here are three worth knowing about.
The Pavilion Classic and well-proportioned with a beautiful indoor atrium and an outdoor ceremony space beside the fountain. One of my favourite spots in the park to photograph.
Leo Mol Sculpture Garden One of the most stunning ceremony locations in the city. Mature trees, bronze sculptures, and a ceremony site right over the pond. Couples who get married here will often use the Qualico Family Centre next door for their reception, which makes for a really seamless day within the park.
English Garden One of the best portrait locations in the park. Lush, structured, and full of colour in the summer months.
GARDEN ESTATE VENUE
The Gates On Roblin
The Gates on Roblin sits just outside the city in Headingley, and it has a warmth to it from the moment you arrive. The team there is genuinely great to work with, organized, attentive, and the kind of people who think of things before you have to ask.
The venue gives you real flexibility. There's a smaller sunroom space that works beautifully for intimate weddings, and then the Grand Ballroom for larger celebrations with an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. The room itself is spacious and easy to move around in, which matters more than people realize when you have a full guest list. The dance floor is one of the bigger ones I've seen at a local venue, and when the party gets going in there it really gets going.
The property sits on the banks of the Assiniboine River, and the grounds give you some nice portrait options without having to go far.
If you want a venue with a great team behind it and a room that can actually hold a party, The Gates is a really solid choice.

HISTORIC PRIVATE CLUB
Manitoba Club
The Manitoba Club has been around since 1874, and it feels like it. This is one of the most elegant venues in the city, the kind of place where very little extra décor is needed because the building does all the talking.
The Oak Room is a stunning option for a smaller, more intimate ceremony. Quarter sawn oak panelling, 16 foot ceilings, a fireplace, and views of Upper Fort Garry Provincial Park. It’s heavily character-driven and photographs beautifully, even with the backlighting you have to work with. It’s one of those rooms where light direction matters, but when it’s done right, it looks incredible.
The Grand Ballroom is a completely different experience. High ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and a separate dance floor that gives the room a real sense of occasion. It feels genuinely high end, because it is.
The Bonnycastle Garden is a beautiful outdoor option for ceremonies and cocktail hours in the summer. Being steps from the Upper Fort Garry gate also gives you one of the best portrait locations in the city right outside the door.
If you want a venue with history, weight, and a level of polish that’s hard to find anywhere else in Winnipeg, the Manitoba Club is worth a serious look.

Planning a wedding
at one of these venues?
If you’re trying to decide between venues and want honest feedback from someone who has actually photographed at them, reach out.
My approach is candid wedding photography, so knowing how a venue actually moves and feels matters to me as much as how it looks.
