Winnipeg Grad Photographer

Graduation is one of those moments that actually deserves good photos. Photos that don’t feel staged, awkward, or forgettable. Just you, in a place that matters, looking like yourself. Not the kind you forget about by September, but the kind that ends up framed, shared, and looked at for years.

If you're looking for a Winnipeg grad photographer who keeps things easy, natural, and actually personal, you're in the right place.

Grad sessions are booking now for 2026

I've photographed over 50 grad sessions across Winnipeg, from the Exchange District to Assiniboine Park to Birds Hill Park. Every session is built around the person, not a template. If you're a parent looking for graduation photos in Winnipeg that your daughter will actually love, or a grad who wants something that feels like her, this is the right fit.

I was named Canadian Wedding Photographer of the Year in 2024, and that same approach to detail and storytelling is what I bring to every grad session.

Graduation Photos in Winnipeg, Done Differently

Before we shoot, I send over a short form to get a sense of who you are and what you're into. You'll also send me a photo of your outfit, whether that's your grad dress or your suit, so I can plan for colours in the scene that actually work with what you're wearing. That matters more than most people think, it changes how everything looks in the final photos.

From there, we figure out a location together. Most grads end up downtown Winnipeg, and the reason is simple: the variety. Within a few blocks you can go from a brick alley to an open street to a glass building and have photos that look completely different from each other. It's hard to beat.

But if you've got something else in mind, I'm genuinely open to it.

One session that sticks out was with a grad heading into art school. He was really into graffiti and street art, so we shot at the Graffiti Gallery of Winnipeg. It's a good example of how a session can be built around who someone actually is. Another favourite was out on an acreage with her horse. Those photos were something else entirely.

Some grads also bring a group of friends along. I've done a few of those and they're genuinely a lot of fun. It works out well cost-wise too since everyone can split it.

If there's a place that means something to you, or a few people you want with you, let's talk about it.

What the Session Feels Like

Sessions typically run about 40 minutes and include solo shots as well as time with family. Friend sessions are available too.

Grad day is a big deal for the whole family too. I always build time into the session for photos with parents and siblings. It doesn't take long, but those shots tend to mean a lot, and they're worth making sure you have them.

You don't need to know how to pose or what to do. That's my job.

I shoot in a mix of directed and natural style. I'll give you movement to work with, turning, walking, looking away, small things that make photos feel alive rather than stiff. But some of my favourite shots come from the in-between moments. The laugh after a pose didn't quite land, the goofy face before we get the real one, the moment someone stops thinking about being photographed and just starts being herself.

There's no wrong answer when we're shooting. If you try something and it doesn't work, we move on and laugh about it. If you give me something, I'm going to run with it. The goal is for your personality to actually show up in the photos, not just your outfit.

I've done over 50 grad sessions in Winnipeg. Some people want a lot of direction and find it easier to just be told what to do. Others loosen up fast and we move through it naturally. Either way works, and we figure it out pretty quickly.

Grad Photo Locations Around Winnipeg

There are a lot of great options for grad photos in Winnipeg, and the right one depends on your style, your outfit, and the kind of photos you're going for. Some of the best grad photo locations in Winnipeg include:

MOST POPULAR

Downtown Winnipeg

The most popular choice, and the reason comes down to variety. Within a few blocks you can go from a brick alley to an open courtyard to a glass building. It's a lot of different looks in one area, which makes for a more interesting gallery.

OPEN & NATURAL

Birds Hill Park

A favourite for grads who want something greener and more open. The fields, tree lines, and trails give you a lot of variety, and the evening light out there is genuinely beautiful.

CLASSIC CHOICE

Assiniboine Park

A classic. Easy to get to, versatile, and gives you a few different looks in a single session. It's a reliable backdrop that works for almost any outfit and style.

HISTORIC + MODERN

The Forks

A great mix of historic and modern that photographs really well. The blend of brick, timber, and open waterfront gives your photos a texture that parks don't have.

CLEAN & MODERN

The Leaf

The Leaf works beautifully for something clean, modern, and a little unexpected. Sessions there are subject to their current access policies, so it's worth confirming availability ahead of time.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

Something Different

And if you've got something outside this list in mind, that's a conversation worth having. A parking garage or family farm might sound like an odd choice, but the light in a good one is actually fantastic. Flat, diffused, and great for portraits even in the middle of the day.

A Few Things That Help

  • Bring your cap and gown if you have access to one. You'll want to check with your school ahead of time since not all of them provide it before the ceremony. Your diploma makes a great prop too, and if you have a jersey, instrument, or something else that's personal to you, bring it along.

  • Evening light is my favourite light to shoot in. If you have flexibility on timing, that's the window to aim for. That said, don't stress if it ends up being a grey day. It's not my ideal, but it photographs just fine and we'll make it work.

  • Wear something you feel good in. The confidence you have in your outfit comes through in the photos.

How Booking Works

Get in touch through the contact form and I'll send you a link to book online. You can find a date that works for you through the calendar and get everything locked in from there. It's a pretty seamless process.

Once you're booked, I'll send over a questionnaire to figure out your location, who else will be in the photos, whether that's family, friends, or a four-legged guest, and anything else that helps me plan the session around you.

If you have any questions at all, I'm here for them.
