Part 4 – A Celebration of Love and Tradition: Deep + Gurpreet’s Sikh Wedding
Deep and Gurpreet’s wedding day was a perfect blend of love, family, and rich Sikh traditions. The day began with the Baraat, as Gurpreet arrived in grand style, surrounded by family and friends dancing to the beat of the dhol. Excitement and joy filled the air as the groom’s side made their way to the wedding venue, where they were warmly welcomed by Deep’s family in a lively Milni ceremony—an exchange of garlands and warm embraces between the families.
The ceremony took place at the Guruduara Sikh Society of Manitoba, where Deep and Gurpreet sat before the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred Sikh scripture. During the Anand Karaj, they walked the four Laavan (ceremonial rounds), officially beginning their journey as husband and wife. The entire moment felt so meaningful—prayers, hymns, and love filling the space as their families witnessed this beautiful tradition.
After the ceremony, we made our way to Birds Hill Park for a wedding party pictures and In true wedding tradition, the wedding party managed to steal Gurpreet’s shoes, setting up a playful challenge for him to earn them back at Deep’s family home before he would be allowed in.
There were more blessings before the Doli, the emotional farewell where Deep’s family sent her off to start this new chapter with Gurpreet. Tears, laughter, and heartfelt hugs made for such a bittersweet moment, wrapping up an unforgettable day.
