2024 Canadian Wedding Photographer of the Year
Winning the 2024 Canadian Wedding Photographer of the Year award still feels unreal. Photography has always been about storytelling for me, not the recognition, so to receive this kind of honour is both humbling and surreal.
When I first picked up a camera in 2010, awards weren’t even on my radar. I started out filming weddings with Paperback Films, learning the craft of storytelling through video. Back then, I was just a guy who loved being creative, trying to capture the magic of a wedding day on screen. Shifting into photography felt natural, thanks to the talented photographers I worked alongside. Their artistry inspired me to see weddings from a whole new perspective.
For me, wedding photography has always been about connection. Every couple has a story, and my job is to tell it in a way that feels real to them. I don’t show up with a strict shot list or forced poses as I want to capture the candid laughter, the tearful hugs, and the quiet, in-between moments that make a wedding day so special. That’s the real reward of this work.
This journey hasn’t been one I’ve walked alone. I’m endlessly grateful to my two daughters who remind me every day what love looks like in its purest form. They’ve been my biggest cheerleaders, grounding me when life gets hectic and inspiring me to see beauty in the everyday. And to my incredible couples, past and present: thank you. Trusting me to document your most important moments is something I don’t take lightly. Your love stories are the foundation of everything I do.
I also have to shout out the incredible wedding photography community. So many of you have been sources of inspiration, encouragement, and friendship. This industry thrives on creativity and collaboration, and I feel lucky to be part of it. If this award means anything, it’s a reflection of the talent and passion we all share as storytellers.
Looking back, there have been plenty of challenges. I’ve doubted myself, wondered if I was capturing the right moments, or if I was doing justice to the trust couples placed in me. But through those moments, I’ve learned to grow and stay true to my voice. My style is warm, journalistic, and rooted in authenticity. It has evolved naturally over the years, shaped by the couples I’ve worked with and the stories I’ve been lucky enough to tell.
Winning this award is an incredible milestone, but more than anything, it’s a moment to reflect on the path that led here. I’m grateful for every couple who has trusted me with their story, every mentor and friend who has inspired me, and every experience that has shaped the way I see the world through my lens.
